Milwaukee DSA Calls On CBS 58 To Reinstate Local Meteorologist
Milwaukee Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and their allies are calling on CBS 58 and their parent company, Weigel Broadcasting, to restore former meteorologist Sam Kuffel to her position.
The move comes just days after CBS 58 announced they are going separate ways with Kuffel over her comments condemning Elon Musk’s fascist salute at President Donald Trump’s 2025 inauguration.
Milwaukee DSA organizers launched a petition Monday rallying their supporters behind Kuffel and against the notion that a stand against fascism should cost someone their employment.
“The people of Milwaukee deserve local reporting that is unafraid to challenge the rising tide of far-right hatred instead of running cover for its leading figures,” Milwaukee DSA Communications Officer Greg Brown said. “As we reflect this year on Holocaust Remembrance Day, it is important that we recognize and fight the forces behind historical atrocities as we see them in the present.”
Kuffel’s supporters can join DSA organizers in signing the petition online.

With Elon Musk addressing (via video) Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany party just a couple days ago I’m pretty sure Sam Kuffel has it right. (The Alternative for Germany party is deemed a suspected extremist organization by Germany’s national security services and is the party Musk backed in last December’s parliamentary elections).
In an email I received “Edge of Sports” journalist Dave Zirin posted a statement from Souls to the Polls pastor Greg Lewis which stated, “CBS 58 has caved to right-wing talk radio and the MAGA mob. There’s a demonic straight line from Trump’s good people on both sides to the January 6 insurrection to pardoning leaders of the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys to the CBS 58 firing of their meteorologist. Trump and his allies have mobilized and legitimized racists and bigotry in their pursuit of an extremist agenda.”
Zirin also states that “they (Weigel Broadcasting, which owns CBS58) are now all part of a national story that states Nazi salutes are free speech but critiquing them even privately could cost you your job”.
