Milwaukee County Parks Opens Slice of Ice at Red Arrow Park with Free Skate Rental on Opening Day

MILWAUKEE, WI – The Milwaukee County Parks Department is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated opening of Slice of Ice at Red Arrow Park on Friday, December 13, 2024. This cherished winter tradition offers the perfect opportunity for families, friends, and downtown visitors to enjoy free outdoor ice skating in the heart of Milwaukee.
To celebrate the opening, free skate rentals will be available for all skaters from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., local officials will kick off the festivities with remarks welcoming everyone to this exciting winter experience.

“Slice of Ice at Red Arrow Park is a cherished winter tradition in our community, and I invite all Milwaukee County families, children, residents, and visitors to come out and take part in this special ice-skating adventure,” said Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley“Thank you to our Milwaukee County Parks staff for once again hosting this family-friendly activity in Downtown Milwaukee for folks to enjoy throughout the season.”

Slice of Ice: A Winter Wonderland
Slice of Ice is a free outdoor ice-skating rink for those with their own skates. Skate rentals are available at the warming house throughout the season, with rates of $8 for youth (17 and under), $11 for adults, and $5 for pre-scheduled school and non-profit groups. Skate sharpening is also offered for $7.

Thanks to the Milwaukee Admirals, skate helpers will once again be available this year for just a $1 rental fee with a $5 refundable deposit or photo ID. For skaters with mobility impairments, ADA ice sleds are available at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis.

Whether you’re skating for the first time or you’re a seasoned pro, we’re proud to offer an inclusive and accessible space for all to enjoy winter recreation,” said Guy Smith, Milwaukee County Parks Executive Director.

Enhance Your Skating Experience
With the opening of Biggby Coffee just steps from the rink, skaters can enjoy warm beverages and treats to complete their winter outing. Plus, Red Arrow Park will be decked out in stunning holiday décor, generously sponsored by MGICWaterStone Bank, and  Milwaukee Downtown,  Business Improvement District #21.

Whether you’re downtown after a show or looking for a fun winter weekend activity, Slice of Ice is the perfect destination. Free admission, affordable rentals, and an unforgettable downtown atmosphere make Red Arrow Park a must-visit this season.

  • Sunday – Thursday: 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Friday & Saturday: 11:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
  • Holiday Hours:
    • December 24: 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
    • December 25: 4:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
    • December 26 – 31: 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
    • January 1: 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

January & February:

  • Sunday: 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. (skate rentals begin at 11:00 a.m.)
  • Monday – Thursday: 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. (skate rentals begin at 2:00 p.m.)
  • Friday: 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. (skate rentals begin at 2:00 p.m.)
  • Saturday: 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. (skate rentals begin at 11:00 a.m.)
