MILWAUKEE – Today, Milwaukee County Board Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson, in collaboration with co-sponsors, authored a proposal adopted by the Finance Committee to enhance County services and invest in public safety.

The amendment, which the Committee unanimously recommended to the Board, builds upon the County’s 2024 Recommended Budget by increasing Correctional Officer pay by over 10% to $30 per hour, provides $500,000 for enhanced mental health and dental services for residents of the County detention centers, increases funding for transit security, provides supports for housing insecurity, and enhances our cultural institutions.

Chairwoman Nicholson released the following statement following passage of the amendment:

“I am proud that County Board Supervisors were able to coalesce around this funding proposal to enhance critical county services, invest in public safety, and promote our cultural institutions. Together, we were able to build upon investments put forward in the 2024 Recommended Budget that will strengthen our communities and benefit residents across Milwaukee County.

“This collaborative proposal advanced by Supervisors is rooted in our guiding principles as the Board continues our work toward adopting a budget for next year that makes Milwaukee County a better place to live and play for all.”

Co-sponsors of the Chairwoman’s amendment include Supervisors Sumner, Rolland, Johnson Jr., Shea, Taylor (District 17), Wasserman, Gomez-Tom, Martin, Taylor (District 5), and Burgelis.
