Milwaukee, WI (August 9, 2020) On Saturday, August 8, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Milwaukee County Sheriff’s deputies responded to McKinley Beach for a report of two subjects in the water who had failed to resurface. When deputies arrived, the Milwaukee Fire Department’s Water Rescue Boat was engaged in a search for the two subjects. Deputies determined that, initially, two 14-year-old boys entered the water, and one began to struggle. When the second swimmer tried to help him, both became caught in a current.

A 50-year-old man observed that the boys were in distress and entered the water to assist them. The good Samaritan was able to rescue one of the boys from the water and attempted to rescue the second boy, but both were pulled underwater.

At 6:47 p.m. on Saturday, deputies observed the good Samaritan and recovered him from the water; he was transported to an area medical facility, where he was pronounced deceased on Sunday, August 9, at 7:26 a.m. At 7:07 p.m. on Saturday, deputies observed and recovered the second boy. The Milwaukee Fire Department immediately began lifesaving measures; however, he was pronounced deceased at 7:33 p.m.
