By - Sep 3rd, 2021 02:40 pm

Law enforcement officers of the Milwaukee County Sherriff’s Office, Oak Creek Police Department and Franklin Police Department were involved in a fatal shooting at the intersection of South 27th Street and West Sycamore Avenue in Oak Creek, which occurred this morning shortly before 8:30 a.m.

Investigators believe this incident began early Friday in Milwaukee, where the suspect is reported to have kidnapped a male victim in the 1700 blook of South 26th Street. The suspect then drove the male victim to at least three stores along S. 27th Street in Milwaukee and Franklin, where the victim reported to store personnel that he had been kidnapped. While the suspect and victim were present at the second store, a Wal-Mart located in the 6700 block of South 27th Street, a report was made from the store of an active shooter at that location. This aspect of the incident remains under active law enforcement investigation.

Following this report, law enforcement officers from Franklin, Oak Creek and the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, converged on the area. It is believed that, as officers closed in, the suspect abandoned the vehicle he was driving and stole a second vehicle.

The suspect led officers on a pursuit southbound on I94 during which speeds exceeded 110 mph. The suspect exited the freeway at W Elm Road and continued northbound on 27th Street. The suspect crashed into a business parking lot at 27th Street and West Ryan Road in Franklin and stole another vehicle at gunpoint. At this location the suspect engaged in an armed confrontation with an Oak Creek Officer. The suspect continued the pursuit northbound where he struck another vehicle at the intersection of 27th and Sycamore. The suspect crashed and emerged from the vehicle holding a firearm. He was engaged by four deputies, one Franklin Officer and four Oak Creek Officers and was fatally shot.

No deputies or officers were inquired. And no other individuals involved have reported suffering physical injuries. Lifesaving measures were attempted on the suspect. The deputies involved are on administrative duty per Sheriff’s Office policy, and the officers involved are on administrative leave per their department policies while this investigation continues. There is no active threat related to this incident.

The suspect is a 31-year-old white male from Milwaukee, but his identification will not be released yet, as notifications need to be completed.

Pursuant to WI 175.47(5)(b) the West Allis Police Department, as a member of the Milwaukee Area Investigative Team, is leading an investigation into these events, in cooperation with the Sheriff’s Office, and Franklin and Oak Creek police departments.

If you have any information or evidence related to this case, please contact the West Allis PD as the lead investigators on this matter.
