MCSO Arrests Reckless Driver
Milwaukee, WI (January 28, 2021) On Wednesday, January 27, at approximately 12:38 p.m., Milwaukee County Sheriff’s deputies were traveling eastbound in the 5500 block of West Hampton Ave. when they observed a reckless driver in a Hyundai Tucson without registered plates and weaving through traffic at an estimated speed of 80 mph in a 35 mph zone.
The deputies caught up to the vehicle at a traffic signal and observed a lone occupant waving a semi-automatic handgun. Deputies activated their emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop. The driver slowed down but continued until he stopped in the 6000 block of W. Mill Rd.; however, before the deputies exited their squad, the driver fled the scene. A vehicle pursuit ensued until the driver alighted from the vehicle and fled on foot. The deputies pursued the subject until he ran into an unknown residence in the 6100 block of N. Port. A perimeter was established, and MCSO’s SWAT Team was notified that the subject was barricaded in a residence.
One of the subjects who exited the residence was positively identified by the deputies as the driver they were pursuing; the subject, later identified as Izell I. Harris, was taken into custody. A search warrant was obtained and executed; a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and an extended magazine with 30 rounds of ammunition were recovered.
Mr. Harris was arrested on charges of Fleeing/Eluding, Recklessly Endangering Safety, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
