MCSO Apprehends Suspect in Shots Fired Incident

Milwaukee, WI (May 27, 2020) On Tuesday, May 26, at approximately 4:57 p.m., the Milwaukee County Sheriff‘s Office (MCSO) responded to a report of shots fired at Moody Park, 2200 West Burleigh Street. Upon arrival, Sheriff’s deputies were met by witnesses who indicated that an individual had fired a handgun in the direction of a female and several children. The witnesses further stated that the individual dropped the handgun and fled the scene. Sheriff’s deputies recovered a handgun at the scene. There was no report of injuries or property damage.

Subsequently, Milwaukee County Sheriff s Office deputies and Milwaukee Police Department members developed a suspect and located him at a residence. A short time later, the suspect was taken into custody without incident. The suspect was identified as Marcelo D. Wakefield, age 45, of Milwaukee. He was transported to the Milwaukee County Jail pending charges of 1st-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety. The suspect remains in custody at the Milwaukee County Jail.

Milwaukee County Sheriff Earnell Lucas issued the following statement regarding this incident, “The Sheriff’s Office will not stand idly by and allow a few individuals to hinder the ability of others to enjoy the beauty of our Milwaukee County parks and lakefront. We will continue to have a visible presence in our parks and along the lakefront to ensure that anyone who resorts to senseless acts of violence and endangering the lives of others by resorting to the use of a firearm will be arrested and prosecuted.”
