MILWAUKEE — The Marquette Graduate School will host its fifth annual Three Minute Thesis competition in a virtual format from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26.

Graduate students will compete for a $500 prize by presenting their research in three minutes or less using one slide and no animation.

There will be an array of presentations from various disciplines.

Presentation titles this year include, “Crashing into Spine Safety,” “The Beginning of Friendship: Teaching Individuals to Identify Common Interests,” “Keeping UAVs Safe Through Hardware Security,” “Potential Oxidative Protection from Transthyretin Amyloidosis (ATTR),” “Plant Growth: Promoting Bacteria that Contribute to the Success of Cold Tolerant Rice,” and “Predictions for Robots: So, what’s next?”

Contestants will be critiqued by a panel of judges made of up scholars and leaders from the community.

The winner will represent Marquette University in the regional Three Minute Thesis competition at the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools, which will also take place virtually this year.

The Three Minute Thesis is a global research communication competition developed by the University of Queensland in Australia. The competition is open to all master’s and doctoral students enrolled in a program that contains an original research project. The degree program need not formally require a thesis or dissertation, but the presentation topic must cover the original research project.

Registration for the event is free and available online. Registrants will be provided a Zoom link for the virtual event via email.
