Marquette Theatre announces 2019-20 season

MILWAUKEE — Marquette Theatre has announced the schedule for its 45th annual season, “Dream Come True.” All performances take place in the Evan and Marion P. Helfaer theater located at 1304 W. Clybourn St.
Shows include: “Peter and the Starcatcher;” “Crumbs from the Table of Joy;” “The Theory of Relativity (A Musical);” “Julius Caesar;” and “Arnie, the Doughnut.”
“This season’s title ‘Dream Come True’ is a common thread through through each,” said Jamie Cheatham, assistant professor and head of acting, digital media and performing arts. “Dreams and aspirations feature prominently in each of the five shows we have chosen and among our actors, technicians and designers. We hope the shows we’re presenting live up to our own collective dreams.”
Peter and the Starcatcher

Pirates, sea creatures and a little bit of magic fill this retelling of the Peter Pan story, based on a best-selling novel. Enjoy the origins of your fondest Neverland characters, with all the familiar heroes and villains. Adventure, dreams and your imagination will fill the stage, along with plenty of musical moments and campy humor. This Tony award-winning and inventive prequel is a charming adventure for all ages.

Crumbs from the Table of Joy

This story by a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright addresses issues of grief, racism and the politics of immigration in a moving coming-of-age story. In 1950, a widowed father transplants his two young daughters out of the deep South to Brooklyn, New York, in his search for salvation. The girls are exposed to the escalating tension between a conservative father and a free-spirited aunt. In the end, young Ernestine finds the courage to seek out her dreams in this inspiring tale.

The Theory of Relativity (A Musical)
Music and lyrics by Neil Bartram, book by Brian Hill
This award-winning musical celebrates the theory that we are more connected than we realize. Through a collage of entertaining songs, scenes and monologues, follow several characters along their journeys – and the effect it has when their journeys intersect. This unconventional musical shares heartache, dreams and our shared human connection.

Julius Caesar

Friends, Romans, countrymen, Shakespeare’s compelling drama about political assassination, disturbing dreams and social turmoil is coming to the Helfaer stage. One of the Bard’s most frequent and volatile plays, Julius Caesar stresses the moral conflicts of leadership and justice in a way that still resonates today. This cautionary tale of power, pride, and political machinations is not to be missed.

Arnie, the Doughnut
Based on the book by Laurie Keller, adapted by Frances Limoncelli, music and lyrics by George Howe
Laurie Keller’s charming story about Arnie, an enthusiastic doughnut, is adapted musically to the stage. When Arnie’s infectious optimism inspires the cautious Mr. Bing, this new pair of pals learn a lesson about the rigid rules at the Cozy Confines Condo Community. Together, they dream up a way out of a sticky jam.
