Make a Splash! Lifeguard Training Kicks Off for Milwaukee County Parks 2026 Season

Milwaukee, WIMilwaukee County Parks is now recruiting lifeguards for the 2026 summer season, offering a starting wage of $17.49 per hour for individuals seeking a rewarding summer job that makes a positive impact in the community.

In addition to competitive pay, working as a Milwaukee County Parks lifeguard provides valuable, transferable skills that support career goals in any field, including leadership, communication, teamwork, public relations, and self-confidence. Lifeguards also gain hands-on experience in emergency response and public safety through extensive training and real-world interaction with the public.

Milwaukee County Parks is offering free, mandatory in-water training at two convenient locations, with multiple sessions available to ensure all candidates are fully prepared.

Training Schedule for the 2026 Season

  • Session 1: February 17 – March 5, Pulaski Pool, with the exam on March 7
  • Session 2: March 23 – April 8, Noyes Pool, with the exam on April 11
  • Session 3: April 14 – April 30, Pulaski Pool, with the exam on May 2

Training Locations

If you are not quite ready for the in-water training, Milwaukee County Parks can help. Learn more here about swim classes and other ways to prepare.

The in-water exam is required for all applicants. Candidates who successfully complete the exam will advance to Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) training, gaining the essential skills needed to respond confidently and effectively in emergency situations.

Milwaukee County Parks Lifeguard Corps Successes

Milwaukee County Parks has made remarkable strides in expanding its lifeguard team since the pandemic. The corps has more than doubled from 77 lifeguards in 2022 to 155, allowing the Parks to reopen facilities, extend hours, and expand programs, including swim lessons, to welcome and serve more visitors each year.
