Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald Reacts to Governor Evers Vetoing Another Tax Cut

[Madison, WI]  On Wednesday, Governor Tony Evers vetoed a middle-class tax cut proposal – his second veto of a tax cut as governor. Following the governor’s actions, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald released the following statement:

“Since last fall, I’ve said that I support another middle-class tax cut for hard-working Wisconsin families. I am extremely proud that Republican majorities in the Legislature pulled together and passed a plan that cut income taxes, slashed the personal property tax, paid down debt, and put money away in the state’s rainy day fund.

“While I’m disappointed in the governor’s actions, I’m not surprised – this is the second income tax cut he’s vetoed as governor. His budget proposal last summer included over $1 billion in tax hikes. Republicans in the Legislature will continue to hold the line against his far-left agenda.”

Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) represents the 13th Senate District, which covers portions of Dodge, Jefferson, Waukesha, Washington, Dane, and Columbia counties.

The Senate bill vetoed by Gov. Evers was not a “middle-class” tax cut. It was another tax cut for big business and wealthy political contributors. There was no attempt on the part of Fitzgerald and his cronies to listen to the what the voters wanted. They decided what this state needed was another big tax give-away to those who need assistance the least.

I have one question for Fitzgerald, when will hard working Wisconsin families no longer be forced to subsidize your wealthy corporate donors? When will you fulfill your oath of office?
