MILWAUKEE, WI – (March 1, 2018) – Madisen Maher Architects is proud to announce its Top Projects Award from The Daily Reporter for Standard Electric Supply Co. – Corporate Office. “One of the first companies to move to the Menomonee Valley to make room for the Bradley Center 30 years ago, 97-year-old Standard Electric Supply Co. was ready to expand and upgrade their warehouse/office environment and reaffirm their commitment to the community,” states Sean Maher, Principal. “Their vision was to transform their dated offices into a contemporary, interconnected, active environment that improves the way they work, connect and collaborate,” he adds. This was accomplished by creating zones that are interconnected in varying degrees.
“Dramatic improvements included natural daylight, strengthening the connection to the Menomonee River, and development of collaborative work spaces, conference areas, huddle rooms and training offices,” says Larry Stern, President of Standard Electric Supply Co. “This public-private partnership was benefited by working with the city on land expansion, contaminated soil remediation and the incorporation of bio-swales to improve water runoff quality,” he adds.
Numerous offices were pulled away from exterior windows so natural light could spill into the interior. The overall color palette consisted of natural tones and materials to reinforce the refined design.
Key architectural features included:
– Continuous exterior glass
– Interior glass-partitioned walls and transoms
– Glass wall private offices
– Polished concrete floors accented with area rugs in lobby
– Glass wall conference rooms
– Open work space environments with access to large exterior windows
– Private rooms for small meetings and teleconferences
– Ten department areas
– Breakout collaboration areas
– Light-filled lobby to welcome guest
– Large training room for group discussions
– Employee lunch area and activity center
– Room for growth in all departments
– Extra land for future warehouse expansion
