Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes Blasts Ron Johnson for Supporting Oshkosh Defense’s Effort to Deny 1,000 Jobs to Wisconsin Workers
As Oshkosh Defense Tries to Deny 1,000 Good-Paying Jobs For Wisconsinites, Ron Johnson Says “It's not like we don't have enough jobs here in Wisconsin”
MADISON — Today, Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes, candidate for U.S. Senate, blasted Ron Johnson for supporting Oshkosh Defense’s efforts to award 1,000 jobs to non-union workers in South Carolina instead of creating jobs for workers in Wisconsin. Johnson said today, “It’s not like we don’t have enough jobs here in Wisconsin.”
“It’s despicable that Ron Johnson won’t lift a finger to create 1,000 union jobs in his own hometown. I’m angry but I’m not surprised. Ron Johnson has spent a decade making more money for himself and his wealthy donors while ignoring the problems we’re facing at home. It wasn’t enough for him to advocate for tax breaks for companies that want to ship good jobs out of Wisconsin — now he’s actively encouraging Oshkosh Defense to deny jobs to Wisconsin workers. Any Senator who says they won’t fight for good jobs for Wisconsin has disqualified themselves from being reelected. He has forgotten who he was elected to serve, and it’s time for him to go.
“My dad is a UAW member, so I know firsthand how important these jobs are. These are the kind of jobs that do more than just put food on the table, they give families a chance to afford good health care, save for the future, even send their kids to college. We have some of the best and most skilled workers here in Wisconsin. The workers of UAW Local 578 have been building the highest quality vehicles in the country for nearly one hundred years. They deserve a Senator who is on their side, not on the side of corporations who want to take away their jobs. I’m running for Senate to stand up for the middle class, and I’ll never stop fighting for good jobs and opportunities for everyone in Wisconsin.”
