Key information remains under wraps in Dontre Hamilton case
Statement of Alderman Joe Davis, Sr. October 31, 2014
Today, the results of a “no confidence” vote regarding the Chief of Police were released. This further confirms the piecemeal approach that has been taken regarding the Dontre Hamilton in-custody death which occurred six months and one day ago in Red Arrow Park.
I find it ironic that with all the controversy surrounding the investigation and the pending final determination of the District Attorney, no one has mentioned a key witness to the incident whose view was undeniably critical — my colleague Alderman Bauman (his office view of the park and the shooting location is direct and unobstructed). It’s interesting that with all of the misinformation out there, the family and the public have little knowledge that he has been interviewed by the investigators assigned to the case.
I know my colleague and his integrity, so why is this not important to the truth? I hope his testimony is not being suppressed because of ulterior motives.
