Kelda Roys Wins All Three Recent Straw Polls
Support for Roys growing as primary draws closer
Madison, WI – Following her resounding double-digit victory in the straw poll held by the 2nd Congressional District Democratic Party, gubernatorial candidate Kelda Roys won two additional straw polls in the past week. In the past month, there have been three straw polls, and three Roys victories – meaning Kelda Roys is distinguishing herself as the consensus candidate in a crowded field.
The second straw poll of the month was Saturday, during the Educators Amplified WRRP Radio and WEAC Region 7 forum. Those in attendance were asked to rank all candidates by their debate performances; Kelda took first place.
Dr. Timothy Slekar, the Dean of the School of Education at Edgewood College and one of the event’s moderators, described Kelda as “very articulate, passionate, [and] strong” and said she answered questions with both passion and depth. He made these remarks the day after the event on the Devil’s Advocates, an influential talk radio show (remarks and poll results at the 1:04:00 mark).
“We’re offering a Wisconsin built on fairness and opportunity, and voters are responding,” said Roys. “These straw polls are further proof that Wisconsinites are looking for someone to vote for, not just something to vote against. We are going to make Wisconsin the best place to raise a family and the best place to grow a business, and that positive vision is why we’re going to win this election.”
Earlier in April, Roys was also among the top four finishers in the Racine County Dems straw poll; the party did not release numbers or rankings.
Roys, 38, is a small business owner, attorney, former state representative, and past head of NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin who has been standing up for women and families throughout her career. In the Assembly, she stood out as an influential and effective lawmaker, delivering results for working families and helping lead the opposition to Governor Scott Walker’s divisive agenda. As a parent and step-parent of four girls, Roys will fight for paid family leave, affordable childcare, great schools, and quality healthcare for all. In a year in which Wisconsin voters are ready for change, Kelda Roys provides the clearest contrast to Scott Walker.
