Jury Convicts Missing Plover Woman’s Husband of Homicide
The evidence presented at trial established that on or about March 13, 2019, Sypher killed Krista and hid her body.
STEVENS POINT, Wis. – On October 23, 2019, a jury in Portage County found Jason P. Sypher of Stevens Point, Wis. guilty of first-degree intentional homicide and of hiding a corpse. In March 2017, Sypher’s wife Krista disappeared and has never been found. The trial was presided over by Portage County Judge Thomas B. Eagon.
“Following an extensive investigation by law enforcement and the excellent work of the prosecution team, justice has finally been obtained for the disappearance of Krista,” said Attorney General Kaul.
The evidence presented at trial established that on or about March 13, 2019, Sypher killed Krista and hid her body.
The conviction was the result of a joint effort by the Plover Police Department, Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Portage County Sheriff’s Office, Stevens Point Police Department, and Federal Bureau of Investigation. Additional resources were provided by Wisconsin Rapids Police Department and Plover Fire Department. Victim services were provided by the Portage County Victim/Witness Program in the district attorney’s office.
The case was tried by Assistant Attorney General Annie Jay and Portage County District Attorney Louis Molepske, with assistance from Paralegal Rochelle Ederer.
A sentencing hearing has not yet been set. The crimes carry a potential maximum of life in prison.
