Johnson Barnstorms Right-Wing Radio To Push Self-Serving Agenda at Expense of Wisconsinites

MADISON, Wis. –  Since breaking his two-term pledge and announcing his re-election campaign, Ron Johnson barnstormed right-wing radio, pushing his self-serving agenda and trying to distract from his repeated failure to deliver for Wisconsinites.

During nearly two dozen interviews, Johnson did not once mention how he would lower health care costs, bring down taxes for working families, bring back jobs to Wisconsin, or address the tax scandals that have been following him since before his announcement.

Instead Johnson:

Defended the tax break he gave himself and his biggest donors.

The value of Johnson’s company increased by millions of dollars after the 2017 GOP Tax Scam bill passed and his two biggest donors received $215 million in the first year the bill went into effect. The two donors previously donated $20 million to Johnson’s 2016 re-election efforts.

Criticized individuals who relied on Medicare and Medicaid to help pay for their COVID treatment.

Said the American Rescue Plan was a completely unnecessary investment in struggling businesses and families.

The American Rescue Plan saved numerous small businesses across Wisconsin that would not have survived without the emergency funding.

“Ron Johnson continues to show that his priority is pushing his self-serving agenda at the expense of Wisconsinites,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Senate Communications Advisor Philip Shulman. “Wisconsinites are tired of Johnson putting himself first and will elect a senator who votes in their best interest.”

Johnson’s record in the Senate has been about serving himself and not Wisconsinites. From trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act and protections for people with pre-existing conditions, rewarding companies that outsourced jobs, and voting against tax cuts for working families, Johnson’s only move is to distract from his failed record. What’s more is that Johnson has spent his time in the Senate finding ways to enrich himself and his biggest donors, like changing the 2017 GOP Tax Scam bill in a way that benefitted his company and those of his benefactors.
