Jake’s Back to Roots, A Community Favorite
"I want Milwaukee to come into Jake’s and feel like we’re friends and have been for years, that’s what being a part of the community is all about."
North Ave, you may know of it but do you really know it? Jake’s Deli makes it’s home at 17th & North and has since 1955. It is an icon and a North Avenue staple for the community. It is that sentiment which embodies the vision of new Jake’s Partner Edward DeShazer. Continuing the tradition of Jake’s classic food on North Avenue while connecting community and restaurant together. Edward is currently President of Venture Fifth, a business focused on Milwaukee restaurants and nightlife, most notably No. 720 night club. He has also been Executive Director for Greater Holy Temple Christian Academy for 6 years, but has worked at the school since 2006. A school his father, Pastor James DeShazer founded in 2002 off of the vision of his brother Reverend, Joseph R. DeShazer. The school continues to support the community and be a home and place of learning for over 600 Milwaukee area kids. It’s that passion and drive to support growth in the Milwaukee community that attracted Eddie to Jake’s Deli, “It’s always been there, a familiar sight with great food on North. I just want to connect us back with the community we serve. It’s always been about community for Jake’s and for North Avenue and we want to get back to that focus.” With that energy and excitement Jake’s is already planning events for August like donating food in support of Social X Homecoming Week and a “Back to School Block Party & Backpack Giveaway” on Sunday, August 26th in partnership with Boys & Girls clubs of Milwaukee and some of the Green Bay Packers players. Edward says, “I want Milwaukee to come into Jake’s and feel like we’re friends and have been for years, that’s what being a part of the community is all about.”
