It’s Merry Mulch time in the Garden District
The Garden District Neighborhood Association, Alderman Scott Spiker, the City of Milwaukee, and the Department of Public Works are hosting a Christmas tree mulching event TOMORROW – Saturday, January 7, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at S. 6th St. and W. Norwich Ave. (just south of W. Howard Ave.).
The event — to help keep Christmas trees out of the landfill by converting them into mulch (by city crews) for gardens and yards — will be held in the Garden District Farmers Market parking lot located at S. 6th and Norwich, across from the Robert Anderson Municipal Building, 4001 S. 6th St.
“This a great program and I encourage neighbors to ‘go sustainable’ and help reduce the number of trees that will go to the landfill by taking their trees to the Garden District ‘Mulch-O-Rama’ instead,” Alderman Spiker said, noting that DPW Forestry staff will assist with the mulching during the event.
Trees should not be wrapped and all decorations and ornaments should be removed before being dropped off. A limited supply of mulch will be collected by the GDNA for resident landscaping uses.
