Hispanic Heritage Month to kick-off Friday with community celebration
Hispanic Heritage Month is set to begin on Friday, September 15 and runs through Sunday, October 15. This month serves as a time to celebrate the diverse cultures, accomplishments, and vibrant history of the Latino community, and a series of events are set to take place throughout the month citywide. Common Council President José G. Pérez and Alderwoman JoCasta Zamarripa are inviting the public to join the celebration all month long, including the kick-off event set for Friday, September 15 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Marcus Performing Arts Center/The Peck Pavilion, 325 E. Kilbourn Ave. The formal program will begin at 11:45 a.m. Media coverage is invited.
“This year we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with the theme Prosperando Juntos – Prospering Together. Throughout the month, it is important to reflect on the invaluable contributions and collective strength of the Hispanic community in Milwaukee, as well as continue to advance towards a future where we can all prosper together,” said President Pérez and Alderwoman Zamarripa. “As we kick-off Hispanic Heritage Month on Friday, we would encourage everyone to come by and take part in the cultural celebration.”Friday’s event is slated to feature an array of food trucks, live music, cultural performances, and over 40 diverse vendors.
