Governor Walker Appoints Douglas Mrotek as Sawyer County Sheriff
Mrotek, a resident of Hayward, Wisconsin, holds over 34 years of law enforcement experience, 31 of which have been with the City of Hayward Police Department.
MADISON – Governor Scott Walker announced today the appointment of Douglas Mrotek as the new Sawyer County Sheriff, replacing Sheriff Mark Kelsey, who resigned on September 2, 2017.
“Officer Mrotek has distinguished himself throughout his extensive career with both the City and Town of Hayward Police Department, and he’s demonstrated he has the expertise to serve as an excellent Sheriff for Sawyer County,” said Governor Walker. “He is a dedicated law enforcement officer, bringing considerable experience in training, emergency response, and public safety. Without a doubt, his concern for the safety and betterment of his community will enhance his leadership as Sawyer County Sheriff.”
Mrotek, a resident of Hayward, Wisconsin, holds over 34 years of law enforcement experience, 31 of which have been with the City of Hayward Police Department. Mrotek has served as Chief of Police for the Town of Hayward for the previous three years.
During his tenure in the City of Hayward Police Department, Mrotek has worked as a Reserve Officer, Reserve Sergeant and Patrol Officer before becoming the Chief of Police for the Town of Hayward. Mrotek also served as a D.A.R.E officer where he taught over 1,400 fifth grade students over a ten-year period. He attended Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College – Rice Lake for his Law Enforcement Officer Certification.
“Mr. Mrotek is innovative and has provided the Hayward area numerous opportunities to learn and grow together as a community,” said Superintendent Craig Olson of the Hayward Community School District. “He has the natural ability to connect with all constituents on a personal and professional level.”
Mrotek also engages the community in a number of ways such as the Sawyer County Chapter of the Wisconsin Towns Association, Sawyer County Snowmobile/ATV Alliance, Bass Lake Town Board and volunteering at Ruby’s Pantry Foodbank.
“Doug Mrotek is a man of commitment, compassion, courage, honesty and integrity, who throughout his adult life has served his community with each of those admirable traits shining brightly,” said Chief Deputy Craig Faulstich of the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office. “He will continue to do so as Sawyer County Sheriff.”
