MADISON – Governor Scott Walker today appointed Brian Wright to the position of Barron County District Attorney. Wright will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Barron County District Attorney Angela Beranek.

“I am pleased to appoint Brian Wright to be the next District Attorney in Barron County,” said Governor Walker. “Wright’s legal experience, professionalism, and commitment to justice give me great confidence that he will serve the citizens of Barron County well.”

Wright brings over 24 years of legal experience in civil, criminal, and administrative law to the position. Currently a solo practitioner in Eau Claire, Wright also serves as the municipal attorney for ordinance and traffic violation prosecution for the villages of Lake Hallie and Cadott. Previously, Wright served as a judge on the Eau Claire County Circuit Court, a civil litigator for Herrick & Hart, S.C., and as Eau Claire County District Attorney.

Wright volunteers with the Wisconsin High School Mock Trial Tournament, the National College Mock Trial Tournament, and the Eau Claire County Veterans Tribute Foundation, Inc. He also volunteers his legal services in assisting Eau Claire’s veteran organizations.

“I have found [Mr. Wright] very approachable and noticed he worked very hard for the appropriate resolution of cases with fairness to both his clients and to law enforcement,” Barron County Sheriff’s Office Detective Jeffrey Nelson said, who has worked with Wright on cases in Barron County. “Brian is the most qualified candidate for this position.”

Wright earned his Juris Doctor degree from Marquette University Law School, his Master of Business Administration from the University of Denver, and his undergraduate degree from LaGrange College. He resides in Eau Claire County with his wife, Haley, and their daughter.
