Gov. Evers Appoints James Rennicke as Burnett County District Attorney
Rennicke will fill the remainder of the unexpired term that ends January 2021.
MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today announced his appointment of James Rennicke to serve as Burnett County District Attorney.
Rennicke is assistant district attorney for Polk County and currently serves as special prosecutor in Burnett County, handling the entire criminal caseload for the county. He has more than three decades of experience practicing criminal law in Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota, including as district attorney in Rusk County, assistant district attorney in Douglas and Polk Counties, and as criminal defense counsel.
“Mr. Rennicke has committed his life work to fair and thoughtful justice. He is a dedicated public servant who goes above and beyond for the good of his community,” Gov. Evers said. “Mr. Rennicke is exactly the kind of stabilizing force that Burnett County deserves.”
Gov. Evers’ appointment of Rennicke fills a vacancy created by the resignation of former district attorney Joseph Schieffer. Rennicke will fill the remainder of the unexpired term that ends January 2021.
