Gov. Evers Applauds Renewable Energy Project Approved by Building Commission

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today applauded the State of Wisconsin Building Commission‘s approval of a project to allow We Energies to construct a solar array at UW-Parkside at no cost to the state. This is the first renewable energy project approved by the Building Commission since he issued Executive Order 38 that created the Office of Sustainability and Clean Energy and established a goal of ensuring all electricity consumed within the state of Wisconsin is 100% carbon-free by 2050.

“I set the goal for Wisconsin to be 100% carbon-free by 2050 because the climate crisis is real and immediate,” Gov. Evers said. “I am pleased to see approval of this renewable energy project at UW-Parkside because it is through partnerships like this that we are going to reach our goal and build a sustainable future in Wisconsin for generations to come.”

In total, the Commission approved approximately $131 million in key projects across the state. Highlights include:

  • Construction of an Assisted Living addition at Oakhill Correctional Institution;
  • Construction of Governors Hall addition and renovation at UW-Eau Claire;
  • Allowing We Energies to construct a photovoltaic array at UW-Parkside at no cost to the state;
  • Construction of Camp Randall Stadium and Fieldhouse renovation with a waiver for Design/Build alternative delivery method at UW-Madison;
  • Construction of utility improvements at UW-Whitewater;
  • Classroom renovation/technology improvement projects at UW-Milwaukee and UW-Platteville; and
  • Various maintenance and repair projects located in 11 counties across the state for the Departments of Corrections, Health Services, Military Affairs, Natural Resources, and the UW-System.
