Gov. Evers Announces Evers Administration to Recruit Federal Workers Affected by Mass Trump Administration Firings

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today announced the Evers Administration is boosting efforts aimed at supporting federal workers affected by the Trump Administration’s reckless mass firings. In recent weeks, President Trump and the Trump Administration have baselessly and illegally attempted to fire tens of thousands of federal workers, including thousands of veterans—reportedly more than any U.S. president in American history. The governor’s announcement today comes as the Trump Administration appears poised to continue gutting federal programs and agencies with plans to fire, for example, approximately 80,000 workers at the Department of Veterans Affairs this year, which includes about 20,000 veterans.

Gov. Evers and the Evers Administration today announced a new portal and additional resources designed to support fired federal workers and other displaced professionals as well as those seeking different employment opportunities to help connect them with available work. Federal workers or other displaced professionals can use the Evers Administration’s new portal to find in-demand, difficult-to-fill roles across Wisconsin and state government agencies, research career opportunities based on their skill set and the local labor market, and access critical resources like job center services, unemployment benefits, and rapid response and dislocated worker programs designed to support workers who recently lost their jobs.

Additionally, the Evers Administration through the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) today also announced a series of eight new virtual job fairs throughout the month of April to assist fired federal workers and other displaced professionals with finding gainful employment. More details on the virtual job fairs are available below.

“The Trump Administration’s mass firings across the federal government in flagrant violation of the law have created undo chaos and confusion for tens of thousands of federal employees—employees who only wanted to do their best for the families and communities they were tasked to serve. These actions are not only harmful to our workforce, but they are harmful to the folks who have lost critical and trusted support systems in accessing the programs and resources they rely on each day,” said Gov. Evers. “But here in Wisconsin, hard work is in our DNA, and anyone who is interested in bringing that same commitment to the job is welcome in our state. We are hopeful that these systems can help bring dedicated and talented workers to Wisconsin state government and communities across the state.”

Earlier this month, Gov. Evers announced Wisconsin would be joining a multi-state lawsuit against President Trump and the Trump Administration for these large-scale, reckless firings that have thrown tens of thousands of Americans across the country into chaos after being indiscriminately fired for no fault of their own. More Wisconsinites are working than ever before in Wisconsin. Last year, Wisconsin set record employment levels for eight consecutive months and remained a full percentage point below the national unemployment rate for much of the year. Nine counties in 2024 also reached their lowest unemployment levels on record.
