Girls Rock MKE’s Ladies Rock Camp Returns in April 2024

MILWAUKEE – Ladies Rock, Milwaukee’s weekend music camp for women and gender-expansive adults, returns in April 2024. Adult campers of any and all musical abilities are encouraged to attend Ladies Rock camp – no previous musical experience is required.

Ladies Rock camp will be held Friday through Sunday, April 5-7, 2024 with an introductory meet-up on the evening of Thursday, April 4, 2024. Camp will be held at Mount Mary University’s Stiemke Hall, 2900 Menomonee River Parkway, Milwaukee, WI 53222.

Program Director Amy Upthagrove is excited to lead their first Ladies Rock camp as a staff member after volunteering with the organization since 2015 as an instrument instructor, band coach, workshop leader, and sound engineer. “I’m incredibly thrilled to launch our highly anticipated 2024 programming with Ladies Rock, a transformative program that offers a safe and empowering space for adults to explore their creativity, foster personal growth, and engage in collaborative music-making,” says Upthagrove. “Through this unique experience, we hope that participants will not only embrace the joy of music but also develop valuable skills such as teamwork, self-expression, and self-confidence!”

First held in 2015, Ladies Rock is an intensive Friday through Sunday music day camp for adults of marginalized genders hosted by local organization Girls Rock MKE. During the 2024 camp, adult campers with a range of musical skill levels will form a band, learn an instrument, write an original song, and perform that song on stage at a public showcase for friends, family, and fans!

Registration for Ladies Rock camp opens Thursday, December 14, 2023, and closes on Thursday, March 21, 2024. Interested individuals can register at ladiesrockmke.org. Camp tuition is $300. Financial assistance is available to allow any rocker the opportunity to attend camp.

The Ladies Rock showcase will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at Company Brewing in Milwaukee’s Riverwest neighborhood, 735 E. Center Street, Milwaukee, WI 53212. Community members are welcome and encouraged to attend the all-ages showcase.

Anyone interested in sponsoring a Ladies Rock camper’s tuition can purchase a gift card in various increments and gift it to a loved one, or donate directly at girlsrockmke.org/donate to contribute to the program’s scholarship fund. Girls Rock MKE is a non-profit 501(c)3 and contributions are tax-deductible.
