Girls Rock MKE Appoints Inaugural Executive Director

MILWAUKEE – Girls Rock MKE is thrilled to announce the appointment of Mary Joy Hickey as its inaugural Executive Director, marking the organization’s first full-time staff position. As a co-founder of the annual Ladies Rock camp, a former co-organizer of Riverwest FemFest festival, and a talented multi-instrumentalist active in the Milwaukee music community, Mary Joy brings a wealth of experience, dedication, and passion for the organization’s mission and values.

Mary Joy’s leadership comes at a crucial time for Girls Rock MKE as it embarks on a path of revitalization and growth. With her strategic acumen, passion for social impact, and dedication to serving the community, she is the ideal fit to lead the organization forward. Mary Joy’s appointment comes as she is about to graduate from Marquette University with a Master’s in Educational Policy and Leadership.

“We are excited to welcome Mary Joy back into the Girls Rock MKE family,” said Tammy Schleicher, Girls Rock MKE Board President. “Her experience, passion, and dedication make her the perfect fit to lead our organization forward. We are grateful for the contributions of our committed volunteers and part-time staff, particularly Program Director Amy Upthagrove, who is transitioning out of their role. We wish Amy great success on their next adventure.”

Girls Rock MKE is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a supportive community for girls, women, and gender-expansive youth and adults to learn, grow, and express themselves through music. With Mary Joy’s leadership and the continued support of the community, Girls Rock MKE is confident it will continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those it serves.
