Fitzgerald Applauds Israeli PM Netanyahu’s Address to Congress
<
“I am incredibly grateful to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for taking the time to meet with me today, in addition to his Joint Address to Congress. Mr. Netanyahu’s words were powerful and an urgent reminder to us members of Congress and America that we must remain steadfast in our commitment to our great ally, and only democracy in the Middle East,” said Rep. Fitzgerald. “Prime Minister Netanyahu provided me with an important update on the country’s efforts in permanently defeating Hamas and reiterated Israel’s commitment to bringing home the hostages still held by Hamas—some of whom are American. I had an opportunity to speak to family members of hostages when I visited Israel earlier this year, and it remains one of my top commitments to see that these families are reunited with their loved ones. Hamas’s terror must be brought to an end, and I will continue to support our ally Israel to ensure this tragedy is never repeated again.”

“I think I speak not just for myself but for a number of other Senators who think that that decision is a very, very bad one. You do not honor a foreign leader by addressing a joint session of Congress who is currently engaged in creating the worst humanitarian disaster in the modern history of this country. Obviously, as we all know, Israel has a right to defend itself against Hamas terrorism in the terrible attack of October 7, but what it is doing now is going to war against the entire Palestinian people, and what we are seeing now is starvation and famine impacting thousands and thousands of children. The architect of that policy is not somebody you honor by bringing to the United States Congress, in my view.”
