Dr. Shandowlyon Hendricks Declares Candidacy for WI State Superintendent

MILWAUKEE – Dr. Shandowlyon Hendricks, community leader, mom of two, and renowned education professional announced her candidacy for Wisconsin’s State Superintendent this week.

Dr. Hendricks served Governor Tony Evers as Director of the Milwaukee Office. Moreover, she served as the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) Education Administrative Director of Teacher Education, Professional Development and Licensing (TEPDL) and Wisconsin Education Opportunity Program (WEOP). She brings over 25 years of experience in public, private, charter, and higher education to her candidacy.

“Education provides boundless opportunities. As a mother of a child with disabilities and a child who is gifted and talented, I understand the health and wealth a quality education can provide,” Dr. Hendricks remarked. “We will maximize potential, create new trajectories, and unveil opportunities for success across our great state. Together we can ensure a brighter future for all children.”

Dr. Hendricks-Williams is a graduate of Custer High School, Milwaukee Area Technical College, Springfield College, Cardinal Stritch University and earned her doctorate at National Louis University. She is a member of the Church of the Living God, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, MMABSE and Rev Collective. Presently, she resides in the Thurston Woods neighborhood of Milwaukee and founded Project Hope Inc. which provides housing to adults with disabilities as well as adults who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. “As a single mother, I know the challenges that so many Wisconsin families face. My family faced hardship, we dealt with struggle, but I always persevere. Through hard work and faith, I was able to reach my goals and aid the current Gubernatorial Administration in serving our state,” Dr. Hendricks commented. “It will be my honor and privilege to serve as Wisconsin’s State Superintendent of Public Instruction and I look forward to earning support and votes in the  coming months.”

The primary will take place February 16, 2021 with the general election slated for April 6, 2021.
