Dr. Hendricks Unveils Student Bill of Rights
MILWAUKEE – Dr. Shandowlyon Hendricks, candidate for Wisconsin State Superintendent of Public Instruction, unveiled her Student Bill of Rights on her website this week. The Student Bill of Rights contains over twenty policy solutions and guarantors of success for Wisconsin students.
Within the Student Bill of Rights Dr. Hendricks outlines how each Wisconsin student is guaranteed inalienable rights to a premier, fully-funded education; experiences that result in achievement at the student’s maximum potential; and liberty to form opinions and make decisions based on truth and fact. “Policy is personal for me. As the granddaughter of sharecroppers, a single mother of a child with disabilities, and having lived in rural and urban environments, I know firsthand the policy changes needed to ensure results for our children,” Dr. Hendricks remarked. She further stated, “Wisconsinites know they need someone with a policy vision, but also the crucial lived experiences. They need someone who understands our most vulnerable communities. My life was beautifully changed through education and I will relentlessly strive to secure a bountiful future for all Wisconsin children.”
The primary for Wisconsin State Superintendent is February 16th with the general election held April 6th. When successful, Dr. Hendricks will be the first Black woman elected as Wisconsin’s State Superintendent.
