DPW Statement on Leaked Audio from Wisconsin Republican Event
MADISON — The following is a statement from Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler on breaking news from AP that leaked audio from a Republican Party gathering showed a Trump official acknowledging “that it’s always been Republicans suppressing votes in places” and “it’s going to be a much bigger program, a much more aggressive program, a much better-funded program” in 2020.
“The mask is off: Trump and Republicans’ plan to win in 2020 is to suppress the vote. Efforts by the GOP to intimidate Democratic voters represent a direct threat to our democracy and should be condemned by anyone who believes in the Constitution. We will spare no effort in the year ahead to ensure every single eligible voter is able to cast their ballot and have their voice heard.”
