Dominican Center Named Finalist for Impact100 Greater Milwaukee’s $100k Grant

DC would use the grant to continue revitalization in the Amani Neighborhood of Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, May 15, 2019 — The Dominican Center has been chosen out of more than 75 local nonprofit organizations as one of five 2019 finalists for a $100,000 grant from Impact100 Greater Milwaukee, a women’s nonprofit based on a collective philanthropy model replicated nationwide.

The Dominican Center would use the grant to restore housing in the Amani Neighborhood, which the nonprofit supports. DC serves residents in the Amani neighborhood (North to Keefe Avenues; 20th to 30th Streets) to address neighborhood safety, build capacity in housing and economic development, improve access to quality education and help nurture family well-being. DC embraces the Model Block standard of fostering neighborhood stability one house and one block at a time. An Impact100 grant would provide catalyst funding to purchase three foreclosed properties and a vacant lot adjacent to DC (2900 block of North 26th Street), repair them for sale and market them to potential neighborhood purchasers who have completed homebuyer counseling, which DC also provides. Proceeds from the home sales would be reinvested in additional properties to continue neighborhood revitalization.

Impact100 Greater Milwaukee is an organization of women leveraging their collective gifts to award grants to nonprofit organizations to strengthen the Greater Milwaukee community. Each member contributes $1,000 annually to the grant pool, which is then awarded to nonprofit recipients through a rigorous grant selection process. The organization’s 367 members will vote to select the recipients of three $100,000 grants and two $33,500 merit grants during its 2019 Annual Awards Celebration, which will take place Monday, June 3, at the Italian Community Center, 631 E. Chicago St., Milwaukee. Networking begins at 5pm, the program, dinner and voting begin at 6pm and the awards announcement occurs at 8:15pm. The event’s lead sponsor is Johnson Financial Group. Dominican Center is located at 2470 W. Locust Street, in the heart of the Amani neighborhood. It works with Amani residents and partners to build a better future.
