MILWAUKEE, WI – This week, Director of the Milwaukee County Office of Equity, Jeff Roman, submitted notice of resignation effective Friday, April 7. Roman plans to return to his role as a consultant and continue to work supporting social change in cities across the country.

“Milwaukee County is forever grateful for Jeff’s service and dedication as the county’s first Director of the Office of Equity. Appointed during one of the most challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jeff helped the county navigate a difficult landscape and continue to serve some of the most vulnerable residents in communities across the county,” said County Executive David Crowley. “In just two short years he’s built a top-notch team in the Office of Equity that is primed for success and focused on moving Milwaukee County closer toward our goal of race and health equity. On behalf of the entire county, I wish Jeff all the best in his future endeavors.”

Roman was appointed to lead then-named Office on American Affairs in 2020 (changed to the Office of Equity in 2021). Roman’s appointment was subsequently approved in a unanimous vote by the County Board of Supervisors the same year.

Paula Phillips, Director of Equity Operations, will support the transition of leadership as Interim Director following the departure of Jeff Roman.
