Direct Supply Receives 2019 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award
Issued by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, this National Award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their outstanding support of employees serving in the Guard and Reserve.
Milwaukee, Wis. – Today, Direct Supply is being honored with a 2019 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. Representatives from Direct Supply will travel to the Pentagon to formally accept this prestigious award. The event will be livestreamed today, August 23, at 10:00 AM ET by the Department of Defense, and can be watched in full via this link: https://www.dvidshub.net/webcast/20877.
Issued by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), this National Award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their outstanding support of employees serving in the Guard and Reserve. Among the estimated 28 million private employers in the United States, only 10 are selected each year. Five public sector awards are also issued.
Jason Miller, Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force Reserves, nominated Direct Supply for the award.
“I love serving my country and wouldn’t have been able to do so to the best of my ability without the unwavering support of the Direct Supply family,” Miller said. “My most recent deployment would not have been as successful – especially when it came to taking care of my family back home – without the help of my leaders and teammates at Direct Supply. Their unwavering support during my deployment meant that my family’s needs were taken care of and that I wasn’t forgotten. From printing wristbands with my name on it to keep awareness across the company to sending care packages to me and even helping my wife with yard work and housecleaning, I couldn’t ask for a better support system. It meant the world to me. That’s why I nominated Direct Supply for this prestigious award.”
Direct Supply prioritizes supporting and recruiting members of the Guard and Reserve through desirable benefits, including paid time off for employees who are on short-term military duty, supplemental pay for employees called for long-term active military duty, ongoing medical benefits for active-duty employees and their families, and more.
“We are always actively seeking to hire members of the Guard and Reserve as well as Veterans at Direct Supply. Their powerful attributes of integrity, respect, excellence and results are in perfect alignment with our company’s principles and mission,” said Pamela Koehn, Vice President of Supply Chain and Executive Sponsor of the Veterans in Partnership organization at Direct Supply. “Members of the Guard or Reserve as well as Veterans can expect to be taken exceptional care of with these same principles at Direct Supply.”
