Diesel Prices Reach Record-Highs, Hurting Wisconsin Farmers, While Van Orden and Tiffany Support Trump’s Iran War

Fertilizer prices are also straining Wisconsin farmers struggling to stay afloat.

Madison, WI – This week, diesel prices in Wisconsin reached a multiyear high of $5.71 as Trump’s war of choice in Iran continues into its 9th week. Gas prices in Wisconsin are up by more than $1.60 since the war began, making it harder for Wisconsinites to fill up their tanks. Fertilizer prices have also increased dramatically, with the average price nationally increasing by up to 50%.

A recent survey found that about 70% of farmers nationwide can’t afford all the fertilizer they need, forcing many to make difficult choices of planting different crops or facing lower yields. Another report found that the cost of urea fertilizer—which has shot up from $455 to $700 per ton since the war began—could remain 13% higher than its pre-war price into at least 2028, even if the Strait of Hormuz reopened soon.

This comes after a challenging year for Wisconsin farmers, during which Trump’s tariffs and immigration crackdowns dramatically impacted their financial performance. Last year, bankruptcy filings among farmers in Wisconsin surged from 2 in 2024 to 16 in 2025.

Rep. Derrick Van Orden and Rep. Tom Tiffany have rubber-stamped Trump’s agenda at every turn, voting in support of Trump’s extremely unpopular war, which has reached disapproval levels similar to the Iraq and Vietnam wars. More than 70% believe Trump is to blame for exorbitant gas prices, and only 37% of American adults approve of Trump’s job performance.

Wisconsin farmers are suffering because of Trump’s war in Iran. Why won’t Rep. Tiffany and Rep. Van Orden stand up to Trump and stand up for the people of Wisconsin?
