Democratic Party of Wisconsin Statement on DNC Chair Election
"Democrats nationwide are ready to fight for our values and the future of our country under the leadership of Tom Perez. "
MADISON – The following is the statement of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Martha Laning with regards to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair election held at the DNC’s Winter Meeting in Atlanta over the weekend:
“It was inspiring to see so many talented and passionate people this weekend who are eager to lead us into the future. Our party is lucky to have two outstanding progressive champions like Tom Perez and Rep. Keith Ellison who showed that you can run a close, contested race for leadership and still remain a unified organization. Nothing showed that like Perez’s immediate display of collaborative leadership BY nominating Rep. Ellison as deputy chair of the DNC.
“Democrats nationwide are ready to fight for our values and the future of our country under the leadership of Tom Perez. Perez is a proven leader who has spent his entire life standing up for progressive values and making real change happen at all levels of government. He rebuilt the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division and the Department of Labor. I have absolute confidence in his ability to fight for our shared values, rebuild our Party in this new chapter of American politics, and resist the harmful Trump-GOP agenda.
“There is no doubt in my mind that the Perez and Ellison team, along the rest of DNC leadership team, will transform our Party into an organization that will elect progressives to office who will stand up for hard-working Americans.”
