MADISON, Wis. — State Rep. Francesca Hong (D-Madison), the leading Democratic candidate for governor, picked up two major new endorsements this week: the Wisconsin Muslim Civic Alliance and Citizen Action of Wisconsin.

“I am deeply honored to earn the support of organizations that are bringing urban and rural communities together to fight for economic, racial, and environmental justice,” Hong said. “We share the same vision for a Wisconsin where every community has a seat at the table and every family has what they need to thrive.”

The Citizen Action of Wisconsin endorsement cited Hong’s strong positions on delivering fairer, cheaper healthcare, tackling the climate and energy affordability crisis, and raising the minimum wage.

“Citizen Action leaders concluded that Francesca Hong is the best candidate to meet the moment by restoring a vibrant popular democracy that acts in the interest of average Wisconsinites, not the corporate monopolies that dominate state government,” said Robert Kraig, Executive Director of Citizen Action of Wisconsin. “As Fighting Bob La Follette did over 100 years ago, Hong will fight to restore a popular democracy that breaks the power of corporate monopolies and delivers for average Wisconsinites.”

The Wisconsin Muslim Civic Alliance endorsed Hong following a rigorous evaluation of candidates’ records on civil rights and civil liberties, immigrant and refugee policy, economic opportunity, utility costs and support for working families.

“We are proud to endorse Francesca Hong who has been with our community since I began as Executive Director, whether uplifting the Burmese community for small businesses, advocating for a ceasefire, supporting our Advocacy Days or holding a voter engagement event at UW-Madison with Muslim student groups,” said Fauzia Qureshi, WMCA Executive Director. “Fran has consistently stood with us on principle, by opposing the IHRA definition, introducing legislation to oppose Wisconsin’s anti-BDS law, and supporting our efforts even when it was not politically convenient.”

Hong has also earned the support of:

  • Congresswoman Ilhan Omar
  • Congressman Ro Khanna
  • Former Ohio State Senator Nina Turner
  • Attorney and activist Qasim Rashid
  • Black Leaders Organizing for Communities
  • Hmong Organizing & Mobilizing for Empowerment
  • Our Wisconsin Revolution
  • Our Revolution
  • United Faculty and Academic Staff Local 223
  • Democratic Socialists of America chapters across Wisconsin

Along with dozens of state and local elected leaders.

“These endorsements represent the voices of some of the most underrepresented people in the state recognizing that our campaign is one that will fight alongside our neighbors for permanent affordability, strong communities, and civil rights. We are so honored to grow our broad, grassroots coalition across communities, regions and generations, united by our values and our bold vision for Wisconsin,” Hong said. “With 27 days until the Aug. 11 primary, our momentum continues to grow.”
