David Crowley Takes Max Donations From “Defund the Police” Megadonor and California AI Tech Insider
WAUSAU, WI – David Crowley’s California connections are showing up in his campaign bank account.
After traveling to California to raise money alongside Kamala Harris, Crowley’s latest campaign finance report reveals maximum $20,000 contributions from two California donors with ties to the “Defund the Police” movement and the artificial intelligence industry.
“David Crowley is jetting between Washington, D.C., and California with Kamala Harris while his campaign takes thousands from AI interests and defund-the-police advocates and millions from the billionaire-backed Democrat Party of Wisconsin. He is fully embracing an agenda of higher taxes, soft-on-crime policies, and massive data centers all over Wisconsin,” said the Tiffany campaign.
Background:
Campaign finance records show that San Francisco-based AI researcher Todor Markov contributed the $20,000 maximum to Crowley one day after the August 11 primary. Markov previously worked at OpenAI on applied AI, safety systems, and preparedness before joining Anthropic. Crowley has made his ambitions for the industry clear, saying, “There’s an opportunity for us to really become an AI and data hub, not only for the entire country, but for the entire globe.” With Crowley pushing to make Wisconsin a global hub for AI and data centers, it is no surprise that figures from the AI industry are backing his campaign.
Seattle tech billionaire Chris Stolte gave $20,000 on August 26. Stolte co-founded Tableau Software and, through the Stolte Family Foundation, has contributed more than $1 million to the Clean Energy Transition Institute, which advocates for significant expansion of the transmission grid to support the transition to green energy. The donation comes after David Crowley was endorsed by Clean Wisconsin, which has called the proposed BECI and MariBell 765-kV transmission projects “vital.” Those projects would cut through large portions of Wisconsin, including the Driftless Area.
California billionaire Quinn Delaney gave $20,000 on August 12, the day after the primary. Democratic megadonor Quinn Delaney co-founded the Akonadi Foundation, which argues that police departments should be defunded entirely and carried out an initiative to abolish the Oakland School District Police.
Additionally, Illinois Governor and billionaire J.B. Pritzker gave $1 million to the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, continuing a pattern of major contributions from billionaire Democratic donors, including George Soros and Epstein Island visitor Reid Hoffman. David Crowley also received a donation from Jonathan Soros, who advocates for abolishing the Electoral College and is the son of liberal billionaire George Soros.
