During today’s meeting of the Common Council, the Council adopted file #210696 – Resolution designating August 6-13, 2022, as Bronzeville Week in the city of Milwaukee. Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs sponsored the file and also serves as host for the week-long celebration of history, culture, art, and commerce in the Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District.

The 2022 Bronzeville Week, a formal City of Milwaukee sanctioned event, will be the 11th iteration of the event that has become a staple in Milwaukee annually in August. Alderwoman Coggs looks forward to another successful community showcase and celebration. “Every August, Bronzeville Week delivers a vibrant mix of entertainment, resources, art, culture and opportunities for neighbors and the community to engage in fun, healthy, and positive activities. With the dates for next year’s celebration now final, I would encourage residents to save the dates as we look forward to 2022 Bronzeville Week,” she said.

Bounded by Garfield Avenue to Center Street, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive to 7th Street, the Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District is wholly located in the 6th Aldermanic District. The Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District is a City of Milwaukee redevelopment initiative inspired by Milwaukee’s original Bronzeville, and it is striving to revitalize the area of Milwaukee where African-American culture has been a mainstay.
