Danceworks Announces New Executive Director

Julieane Cook to lead the Danceworks organization

Milwaukee, Wisconsin– Danceworks, the local arts education organization, is pleased to announce that Dr. Julieane Cook will fill its Executive Director position. Dr. Cook will officially begin her duties with Danceworks on July 1, 2024.

“Julieane brings extensive leadership experience in resource planning, strategic programming and professional development along with a deep passion for the work of Danceworks,” said Renee Griswold, interim President of the Danceworks Board of Directors. “She is a servant leader with over 15 years of experience in the field of education leadership.”

Most recently, Dr. Cook served as the Vice President and Chief Talent Officer with the LUMIN School Network, supporting the daily operations of seven separate school buildings, emphasizing the creation of a sense of community among the team, students, parents, and network. “I am honored to take on the role of Executive Director at Danceworks, Inc. Thanks to Julia Gray, the team, and the many Danceworkers over the years, we have an amazing opportunity to continue making an impact in Milwaukee, continuing our mission to ensure that everyone has access to the transformative power of dance,” she said.

“It is an exciting time to have Julieane lead the Danceworks organization. Danceworks has provided arts education in the community for over 30 years, and that will only strengthen with Julieane’s leadership,” said Julia Gray, the outgoing Executive Director.

Founded in 1992, the mission of Danceworks, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit, is to enhance joy, health and creativity by engaging the community through dance. Danceworks’ vision is to be a source for arts education and community collaborations that inspire a lifelong interest and participation in the arts. Each year, the organization impacts the lives of more than 55,000 children and adults through programming and performance.
