Cudahy becomes 4th Wisconsin city to enact protections against “conversion therapy” for LGBTQ youth
The ordinance prohibits any practice or treatment of persons under the age of 18 that seeks to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity, or behaviors or expression related to a person’s orientation or gender identity.
January 2, 2019 – Cudahy, Wisconsin. Tonight Cudahy became the fourth city in Wisconsin — joining Milwaukee, Madison and Eau Claire — to pass an ordinance to protect youth from so-called “conversion therapy,” a dangerous and discredited practice aimed at changing one’s sexual orientation or gender identity, led by the efforts of Alder Justin Moralez.
The ordinance prohibits any practice or treatment of persons under the age of 18 that seeks to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity, or behaviors or expression related to a person’s orientation or gender identity. The practice of “conversion therapy” has been discredited by numerous credible health organizations including the American Psychiatric Association, American Counseling Association, American Medical Association, and American Academy of Pediatrics.
Fair Wisconsin applauds Alder Moralez, the City Council and the City’s Board of Health for their continued work to protect LGBTQ youth and make the City of Cudahy a more welcoming and affirming place for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community.

In 2014 Cudahy unanimously passed a local nondiscrimination ordinance to prohibit discrimination in housing, employment and public accommodations on the basis of gender identity and expression, also led by Moralez.
