Congresswoman Gwen Moore Announces Tanya Atkinson, President of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, as State of the Union Guest

Washington D.C. – Congresswoman Gwen Moore is pleased to announce that her State of the Union guest is Tanya Atkinson, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI), and a resident of the 4^th Congressional District of Wisconsin. Congresswoman Moore released the following statement:

Her leadership and dedication to ensuring that all individuals have access to the care they need have made a profound impact on the lives of countless Wisconsinites. As reproductive health care and women’s right to control their own bodies continues to be under threat in Wisconsin and nationwide, Tanya’s presence will serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of protecting a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions. Tanya represents the resilience and determination of countless individuals fighting in this movement, and I am thrilled to have her join me as we continue our fight for reproductive justice and equity,” said Congresswoman Moore.

Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion ban went into effect the day Roe was overturned, and Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin ceased providing abortion services. Last year, a Dane County Circuit Judge ruled last year that the law does not apply to consensual abortions. In September 2023, Planned Parenthood Wisconsin resumed providing abortion services at some of their locations. Currently, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin is seeking to have the 1849 ban ruled unconstitutional by the Wisconsin Supreme Court in ongoing legal proceedings.

The State of the Union will occur Thursday, March 7^th at 9 PM ET.
