Voting Record Reveals Tiffany Sides With Big Tech Oligarchs, Not People of Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. — Congressman Tom Tiffany may be talking tough about big tech on the campaign trail in Wisconsin, but the longtime politician’s voting record in Washington D.C is one of siding with big tech and the ultra-wealthy who run the AI and data center industry.
“The facts show Congressman Tiffany’s tough talk on big tech issues is nothing but an AI deep fake,” commented A Better Wisconsin Together spokesperson Mike Browne. “He’s not only taken big tech’s money, he’s also voted for the legislation they wanted.”
As detailed in recent reporting, Tiffany has taken thousands of dollars for his campaign from Wisconsin registered lobbyists for data centers, in addition to contributions from lobbyists for OpenAI and Oracle, and a donation from Amazon.
In Washington D.C. Tiffany has cast votes in favor of legislation that would have imposed a ten year ban on state AI regulation and he sided with big tech to weaken federal regulations on AI infrastructure.
Also notable is the vote Tiffany didn’t take. When the U.S. House of Representatives passed major online safety legislation that included stricter privacy, age verification, and AI safety mandates for children – the Kids Internet and Digital Safety( KIDS) Act – in June, Tiffany was a no-show, recorded as not voting.
According to Browne, Tiffany taking the side of big tech comes in the context of his campaign’s unprecedented reliance on three ultra-wealthy right-wing donors for his funds and his long history of advancing the causes of those who helped fund his political ambitions.
Browne concluded, “Congressman Tiffany has shown us time and again he’ll sell out the working people and middle-class in Wisconsin for the benefit of the billionaires and special interests. It’s not an accident or a coincidence. It’s a decades-long pattern of behavior.”
