Concert to Honor Local Motown Alumnus Jon Pierre Gee
Motown Alumnus Leaves Music Imprint on Milwaukee
Milwaukee, Wisconsin: A concert celebrating the life of Motown alumnus and Milwaukee music legend Jon Pierre Gee is scheduled Friday, May 14, 2021 at Mr. Jay’s Lounge, 4610 W. Fond Du Lac Avenue, Milwaukee, WI, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Gee, founder of KANDI Music and Midwest Academy of Performing Arts (MAMPA) passed away Saturday, 28 November, 2020. A music staple in Milwaukee for decades, Gee performed at the first Summerfest in 1968 with the group The Chefs. He had also performed with music legends such as James Brown, Ike and Tina Turner, Al Green, Bob Marley, B.B. King, Toots & The Maytels, The Temptations, and The Family Stone.
The concert will showcase Gee’s original music and entertainers produced by Gee under KANDI Music, a label he founded in 1989 with his business partner Katt Webb. Gee’s grandson, former American Idol contestant Rai Hudson will lead the band AhvantSoul, a group Gee started in 2003. The 90’s rap duo Wikkedness, who’s music was featured in a 1998 HBO documentary, and the KANDI music label will perform, and Sandra Soul Music. Soul is a Nicaraguan singer-songwriter based in Chicago.
CD’s and memorabilia will be for sale and food concessions will be available. Masks required. The event is free. Parking is free. Donations are welcome and will go toward the latest music CD project Gee was working on before he passed. Donors contributing $100 or more will receive a Memorial Concert CD package.
