Community Celebrates Opening of Vogel Park Playground with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

By - Jul 30th, 2024 02:34 pm

The Vogel Park playground was installed in 1999 and funding was approved in the 2021 budget for its complete replacement. The new playground system includes ADA-accessible features, and the playground surfacing has been upgraded to a mixture of “poured-in-place” surfacing (soft, rubberized surface) and engineered wood fiber (wood chips). This is a safer and cleaner option compared to sand (existing surface).

“The opening of the new playground at Vogel Park demonstrates Milwaukee County’s commitment to making our County Parks more accessible and family friendly,” noted Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley. “This playground provides a safe, free, and engaging space for children and families to enjoy outdoor activities, promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. We are committed to ensuring that all residents have access to quality recreational opportunities, creating stronger community bonds and a vibrant, healthier Milwaukee County.”

The 2021 budget allotment included design, removal of existing playground equipment and sand as well as the concrete curb, installation of new playground and corresponding site improvements, such as new pathways, benches and bike racks.

“I am elated to be part of the grand opening of the Vogel Park Playground today,” beamed Milwaukee County District 5 Supervisor Sequanna Taylor. “It is wonderful to have a clean, green space where children, seniors, and families can enjoy a safe and healthy environment. This playground is more than just a place to play; it is an investment in our community and in the well-being of our families. Providing a safe space for our residents to gather, play, and enjoy nature is a step forward in enhancing the quality of life for everyone in this community. Once again, this a step forward in the path to making Milwaukee County the healthiest county in Wisconsin.”

This is the 15th playground that the Milwaukee County Parks have addressed in the last 3 years.

“We are excited to officially open the new playground at Vogel Park, which offers an inviting and inclusive space for the community to enjoy for years to come,” said Milwaukee County Parks Executive Director Guy Smith.
