Common Council Unanimously Approves Faster Funding for Street and Alley Repairs
The Milwaukee Common Council today (Tuesday, September 22) unanimously adopted Common Council File #260699, authored by Alderman Peter Burgelis and co-sponsored by Alderwoman Sharlen P. Moore. The resolution allows up to $300,000 in available capital funds to be redirected toward urgently needed street, alley, pothole, and concrete repairs.
“If not for today’s action, these funds would otherwise have remained idle and unspent,” Alderman Burgelis noted. “Now we can put them to work repairing our crumbling streets and alleys. It is a modest investment compared with the scale of Milwaukee’s infrastructure needs, but every additional repair matters to the residents who travel these roads every day.”
“This is a practical investment in safer streets and stronger neighborhoods,” Alderwoman Moore said. “We are putting available resources to work where residents can see and feel the difference.”
The resolution will help the Department of Public Works respond more quickly to mounting repair needs while making better use of resources already available to the city. The resolution now heads to the Mayor’s office for his signature or veto.
