By - Aug 1st, 2023 03:32 pm

Yesterday (Monday, July 31), the Common Council adopted file #230457 which authorizes the creation of a Bronzeville Safety and Traffic Task Force, defines its composition, and directs it to create a report of its findings and suggestions for the Common Council.

The resolution provides for an 11-member task force, to consist of representatives from the Milwaukee Police Department, the Mayor’s Office, Emergency Management and Communications Division, the Departments of City Development and Public Works, the Office of Violence Prevention, stakeholders and residents in the Bronzeville District.

The file was sponsored by Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs and charges the Bronzeville Safety and Traffic Task Force with making recommendations to improve the state of public and traffic safety in the Bronzeville area, and to file an official report of its findings to the Common Council within six months of the file’s adoption.

Alderwoman Coggs, who represents the 6th Aldermanic District, is excited about what the task force can accomplish.

Bronzeville is a vital part of Milwaukee’s economic and cultural centers, and as such it is especially important that we reach out to the local community to improve public and traffic safety in that area,” the Alderwoman said. “With this task force we can address the concerns and the feedback of the Bronzeville community to make it a safer place to travel and live. I look forward to working with the members of the task force and I am optimistic that this will benefit both Bronzeville District and the city at large.”
