Comedy Venue ‘The Laughing Tap’ Coming to Walker’s Point
Milwaukee Comedy will create a permanent home for stand up in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, WIS. – The area’s top independent comedy production company, Milwaukee Comedy LLC, will open The Laughing Tap, a new live event venue and bar in the heart of the Walker’s Point neighborhood. The venue, located at 706B S. 5th St, the former Sprecher Tap Room and Brenner Brewing Co. locations, is slated to open in January 2020 and will be the permanent home for Milwaukee Comedy.
Milwaukee Comedy has built their reputation over the past decade producing high quality shows with some of the top performers from across the country. The beginning of 2019, the company doubled the number of live shows and special events presented monthly from previous years. “We’ve been growing the past few years with the knowledge that a home for stand up in the city was necessary for the scene.” Said Matt Kemple, founder and Executive Producer of the company. “Audiences are growing and the talent pool is better than ever; we’re excited to make The Laughing Tap Milwaukee’s source for the best in standup comedy,” continued Kemple.
When scouting potential venues, the former brewery and taproom location fit what Milwaukee Comedy needed. “We looked for accessibility, an existing bar, and enough space to build a comedy club, but one thing that really stuck out from the beginning is the neighborhood” said Kaitlin McCarthy, Producer. “ Walker’s Point is thriving with local bars & restaurants, art galleries, breweries and shops – It’s perfect for our new venture.”
The Laughing Tap won’t just be bringing in national-touring comedians, but also aims to produce shows highlighting local and regional talent. “These individuals are the bedrock of the Milwaukee Comedy scene and beyond.” Said Producer Greg Bach. “We want to give them stage time in order to grow, so they can shine in front of some of the best performers appearing on Netflix, television, movies and other comedy clubs across the country.”
