A Bronzeville Week event taking place tomorrow (Wednesday, August 2) in collaboration with Big Clean MKE will help get the neighborhood ready for the 12th annual Bronzeville Week, which will run from August 5 to August 12 in the historic Bronzeville District.

Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs, founder and host of Bronzeville Week, said the cleanup event – sponsored by WestCare and the Milwaukee Bucks and starting at 11 a.m. in front of Pete’s Fruit Market at N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. and W North Ave. – will bring stakeholder volunteers together for a great cause. “We want to serve the community in a positive way in the run-up to Bronzeville Week, and joining together to clean and beautify the neighborhood is a great way to do just that,” Alderwoman Coggs said, adding that the event will be held in partnership with Milwaukee County Supervisor Priscilla Coggs-Jones.

Alderman Russell W. Stamper, II, founder of Big Clean MKE, said anyone can join tomorrow’s cleanup effort.

Bronzeville is full of history, and it’s a vital part of Milwaukee’s African American economic and cultural life. I strongly encourage community members to come down tomorrow and lend a hand,” the Alderman said.

Bounded by Garfield Avenue to Center Street, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive to 7th Street, the Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District is wholly located in the 6th Aldermanic District.

Volunteers are still being sought for a variety of Bronzeville Week events. Those interested can connect with Events & Outreach Coordinator Deborah Moore at cmout@milwaukee.gov.
