MILWAUKEE – On March 24, the City of Milwaukee Health Department was informed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) of a chemical health hazard at the Community Within the Corridor East Block (3100 W. Center St.). Elevated levels of the chemical trichloroethylene (TCE) were identified in occupied and unoccupied residential spaces which can cause serious health effects.

On Saturday, March 25, the City of Milwaukee Health Department issued an Emergency Health Order for Closure and Evacuation for the Community Within the Corridor East Block (attached) and is actively working to relocate residents to safe, temporary housing. The primary focus at this time is to ensure all residents are removed from the initial health threat. The Milwaukee Health Department asks for respect for the privacy of residents during the ongoing relocation efforts.

A public meeting for residents will be held in the coming days to provide more information, anticipated next steps, and an opportunity to ask questions.
